200 or so au pairs from Cultural Care turned out last weekend to embark on the annual scavenger hunt in Millenium Park. Although we didn’t win any prizes, my au pairs were treated with my favorite cookies from Caputos and lots of social time. We say goodby this month to Danielle & Christie from Australia. You two explorers will be greatly missed. Bon voyage!

Dozens of au pairs from all of Chicagoland with Cultural Care Au Pair gathered August 19th at Navy Pier to take a cruise on Lake Michigan in an 148 foot traditional four masted gaff topsail schooner named the Tall Ship Windy. Many photos were taken and the fresh breeze and good company were much appreciated on the clear summer evening. Even a few new au pair friendships were launched. Most importantly, sails were hoisted and fun was had. See more photos at Tanja’s website.

Could your family benefit from an exhibit that takes the bare bones (and everything else) of the human body and displays it in a scientific, educational and honest way? Chances are you could and would gain some knowledge and a newfound respect for the tenacity of life from it.That is what the Museum of Science & Industry is betting on by exhibiting the latest work from Dr. Von Hagens called Body Worlds in the field of plastination. Since the mid 70’s Dr. Von Hagens has been preserving and dissecting  human bodies that have been donated to science and sharing his work with the public. This time around themes such as the process of aging and the various systems (nervous, digestive, circulatory) are more deeply explored in an eye opening way.

I took my two roving reporters, 11 and 10 year old boys, to preview the exhibit and we were all 3 moved to write blog reviews as an homage to the human body. If you or your children have an interest in the sciences, specifically medical, biological or veterinary, this is an exhibit you won’t want to miss. If you are alive and aging, or are curious about how your body systems manage and what their successes and failures look like, this is also possibly an exhibit for you.

Last time it was in the US 1.3 million people shared this curiosity. Children 13 and under are required to attend with an adult. Lisa Miner of MSI says they have had children as young as 6 or 7 whose families have discussed the exhibit beforehand an who were quite intrigued but that each family should decide for themselves if their children are ready to visit. The ones I took were certainly intrigued. The exhibit runs from March 18th until September 5th.

Here is what my guest blogger and creator of the Blocky Blog has to say about the visit:

Hi my name is Winston and I’m doing a guest post for Kim the writer in this blog. On the 17th I went to the body world’s exhibit at the museum of science & industry And it was really cool. there were abut at least 40 to 50 body’s This one (photo above)I think was super cool.
